Patriots @ Saints
Very quietly, the Patriots have allowed the second least amount of points in the NFL. As luck would have it, the Saints have scored a league-leading 369 points. Something has to give and that being the case, the better defence combined with a dangerous offence, while getting points is the prudent move here.TAKING: New England +3

$2000.00 Take #229 New England (+3) over New Orleans (8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 30)
it is part of the 99 System. New England is playing great football right now and are peaking at the right time. New Orleans is coming off a big win over a bad team but they have clearly not looked as sharp over the last month as they did early on in the season. New England was blowing out Indianapolis two weeks ago on Monday Night Football until they let that game slip away. I don’t think that they will let this one slip away and I think that they will win it outright. New England is 37-17-2 ATS on the road and they will be ready to play in a very tough environment.

4 Unit Play. #128 Take New Orleans -3 over New England (Monday 8:30 pm ESPN) The Patriots are getting too much respect and this writer is certainly not buying into them just yet. They face an undefeated Saints squad in the Big Easy, and are just a field goal dog? That is not right, since New Orleans is 8-0 straight-up and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games as a home favorite. DC Williams has turned around the Saints defense 180 degrees and this unit can now hold their own. 1st and Ten. Throw in QB Brees and a high powered offense and you will hear from this team for quite some time. This line is way too low and we will collect big in the process as well. New Orleans 37, New England 30.

THE GOLD SHEET

*New England 34 - NEW ORLEANS 27—Initial thought on this one is to
look “over” the total, which is not cheap. But these two passers, the Monday night
atmosphere in the Big Easy, and Saints’ heavenly 14-4 Superdome “over” mark
more than hint at the attempt. N.O. held out RB Reggie Bush (knee) last week vs.
Bucs. And DT Sedrick Ellis and CBs Tracy Porter & Jabari Greer were out as well.
Brees & Co. 9-4 vs. spread last 13 home. But Brady & Co. 8-4 their last 12 on the
road and 6-2 when getting points. Saints’ DB injuries figure to give Tom Terrific
and his receivers the edge. CABLE TV—ESPN

LOGICAL APPROACH

New England + 3 over NEW ORLEANS (Monday) -This game will be hard pressed to match
the game two weeks ago when New England nearly ended Indianapolis' perfect season but
it should be just as entertaining. And likely just as high scoring as both teams have potent
offenses capable of big plays from any point on the field. For the Saints this game is
sandwiched between a pair of 2 game road trips. For the Pats it's sandwiched between AFC
East foes the Jets and Miami. It's hard to pass up taking points with the Patriots who've not
been underdogs to an NFC team since defeating St Louis 40-22 as 2 point road pups in
2004. Since then they've been favored 19 straight times against the NFC, winning 17 with 1
of the 2 losses being to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII. The Pats end the Saints' unbeaten
season. New England wins 34-27.

Pick 'n' Roll: Today's best NBA bets

Chicago Bulls at Milwaukee Bucks (-2, 195.5)

Michael Redd fantasy owners should probably put their sweet shooter back on the bench. The Bucks All-Star two-guard says he came back too soon and will take his time before returning again.

“When you play in game motion, you really find out if you’re ready or not,” Redd told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Explosion is not there yet, and it’s obvious. Just not finishing, not getting above the rim.”

Redd strained his patella tendon in the first game of the season and sat the next nine games. He played in two games last week before going back to the sidelines.

Scott Skiles would love to have Redd back in the lineup. Rookie Brandon Jennings is starting to slow down some and Milwaukee is struggling to keep its head above water.

The Bucks are 0-4 straight up and 1-3 against the spread over their last four games.

Pick: Chicago

Indiana Pacers at Golden State Warriors (-2, 228)

With the return of Mike Dunleavy the Pacers all of a sudden have some nice depth on the perimeter. The production of Danny Granger, Brandon Rush and Dahntay Jones means coach Jim O’Brien doesn’t have to dump too many minutes on Dunleavy too soon.

The former Blue Devil scored 13 points in 16 minutes Friday night against Dallas. It was his first game back since undergoing knee surgery last March.

“He looked really good, did a lot of good things,” O’Brien told the Indianapolis Star. “I know it’s very comforting for a coach to have him out there.

“Things flow and he brings a certain IQ, if you want to use that phrase, to the game that is nice to have.”

Look for the Pacers to get back on track with a win Monday against the Warriors.

Ice picks: Today's best NHL bets

Florida Panthers at Atlanta Thrashers (-160, 6)

Remember when the Thrashers would only go as far as Ilya Kovalchuk could carry them? Well that’s not the case anymore.

Atlanta is no longer a one-trick pony. The club has a great goaltending duo with stud prospect Ondrej Pavelec and steady veteran Johan Hedberg. Scoring comes from new No. 1 center Rich Peverley, Maxim Afinogenov and Nik Antropov whenever Kovalchuck can’t find the back of the net.

And the team possesses a backend that can hold a lead. After Saturday’s win over the Flyers, the Thrashers are 9-0 when scoring the first goal.

Meanwhile, it’s the same old news in Florida. The Panthers are struggling to stay relevant in the Eastern Conference and have dropped four straight.

Pick: Thrashers

Dallas Stars at Detroit Red Wings (-150, 5.5)

The minute the Wings look like they’ve got things straightened out and could go on a long win streak, they turn around and stink up the joint. Over a three-game stretch two weeks ago, Detroit beat Columbus, Vancouver and Anaheim by a combined score of 19-6.

Since then, Hockeytown is 2-5 and during the stretch the Wings scored just eight goals.

The offense is down from the blue line. Nicklas Lidstrom and Brian Rafalski were the highest-scoring defensive pair the last two seasons. Through 25 games, the two have just 20 points between them. But this is just part of an overall problem in Detroit.

“Sometimes, things don’t go your way for a while,” Wings coach Mike Babcock told Michigan Live after his club fell 3-0 to the Flames last week. “Are you going to hang your head and feel bad, or are you just going to keep staying determined?"

Look for Detroit to snap out of its scoring slump and pick up a home win over the Stars.

Pick: Detroit
